Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse man is facing felony charges after being accused of choking and punching a 10-week-old puppy.

53-year-old Charles Robinson of Polk Street was initially charged with a misdemeanor and issued an appearance ticket after the SPCA responded to reports of abuse.

A day after the puppy was seized by the SPCA, investigators noticed that the puppy’s eyes were bloodshot. The animal was taken to a veterinarian who determined that the dog was bleeding internally.

An SPCA investigator said the injuries revealed that Robinson had held the puppy by the neck and punched her. The injuries resulted in a felony arrest.

The dog is recovering in foster care, according to the SPCA.
