LIVERPOOL, NY (WSYR-TV) - Hundreds of people turned out for Walk MS Syracuse on Sunday at Onondaga Lake Park.
The event raises money to help find a cure for MS and also benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Upstate New York.
The fundraising goal for the walk was $82,000. By the time the walk started, more than $50,000 had already been raised online.
But organizers say the event is about much more than raising money, as more than 870 people are living with MS in Onondaga County alone.
"The ultimate goal is for us to support those folks who have multiple sclerosis and let them know that they're not alone and for us to find a cure to this disease,” said Nikke Bomasuto with the MS Society of Upstate NY.
Walks are being held in 20 Upstate communities this spring with an overall goal of raising $1.4-million.
