Fire Chief and Firefighter arrested after arson investigation
Oneida County (WSYR-TV) -- The McConnellsville Fire Chief and a firefighter are both charged with arson after allegedly setting fires in Oneida County.
Authorities arrested 35-year-old McConnellsville Fire Chief Howard Roache, for starting a fire in the Town of Vienna. It happened Friday at a seasonal home at 8177 Yager Rd. The fire was put out by members of the McConnellsville Fire Department, but the house was heavily damaged by the fire.
Investigators later determined the fire was set by someone and evidence led them to arresting Roache. He is now charged with felony arson.
Police also arrested 54-year-old McConnellsville Fire Department firefighter James Goold for starting a separate fire at an abandoned maintenance building in a gravel bed. That fire happened Febraury 2 at 3047 Wheeler Hill Rd in the Town of Annsville. Goold is also charged with felony arson.
Both men are awaiting arraignment, as investigators look into several other suspicious fires in the area.
