VOLNEY, NY (WSYR-TV) -  Firefighters responded to a fire at the Bristol Hill Landfill on State Route 3 in Volney on Sunday.

911 dispatchers say it started just before 4:30.

Investigators believe the garbage was ignited by hot ash that was likely dumped at the site when other garbage was dropped off on Sunday.

Chief William Brown of the Volney Fire Department says the size of the fire was about 75 feet by 100 feet.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish the fire.
