FARMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say 31 yearling cows have been killed in a Western New York barn fire.

The Ontario County Sheriff's office tells Rochester-area media outlets the blaze was reported by a passerby at about 1 a.m. in the town of Farmington and continued to smolder Monday morning.

Deputies say the first firefighters on the scene found the roof already collapsing.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.

Farmington is 20 miles southeast of Rochester.
