First photos of the baby swansManlius (WSYR-TV) -- Faye and Manny are now mom and dad. The beloved Manlius Swan Ponds have welcomed three babies.
However, if you’re hoping to get a glimpse of the cygnets, you might have a tough time. They’ve been peeking their heads out here and there, but they’ll rest a full night before going into the water tomorrow morning.
Faye laid six eggs, but just three have hatched so far. Local ornithologist Mike Bean tells NewsChannel 9 he’s not sure the others will hatch; but of course, only time will tell.
Wednesday at 6 p.m., a special presentation of the swans will be held at the town building. Bean will lead the presentation and talk about what to watch for in the new little cygnets.
Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin has put up light pink and blue nursery flags at the pond to announce the cygnets’ arrival. He calls them an early Christmas present.
Ross Leone, of Jamesville, is accused of destroying Manny and Faye’s first set of eggs back in April. He’s now facing the following charges in connections with the incident: Criminal mischief, petit larceny, criminal trespass, and criminal possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors; as well as interference with fish and wildlife, a violation.
