SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Food pantries are desperate for help as the holidays approach and NewsChannel 9 is happy to be working with Tops Friendly Markets again this year on “Food for Families.”
Tops brought the one-day food drive to Central New York last year to collect donations for the Food Bank of Central New York.
This year the food drive is scheduled for Friday, December 14th at Tops Markets in Fayetteville, Westvale and Airport Plaza.
On Sunday, volunteers from VIP Structures built a “Canstruction” at the Tops in Airport Plaza to draw people’s attention to the fact that people right here in Central New York are going hungry every day.
This year, the “Canstruction” is a 7-foot American flag made of nearly three thousand cans and boxes of food, more than twice as much food as last year’s “Canstruction.”
