For first time since 1979, US and Iranian presidents communicate
Washington, DC (WSYR-TV) - History and progress in the relationship between the US and Iran were made Friday as the presidents of both countries spoke on the phone.
It marks the first conversation between the nations' leaders since the Iranian hostage crisis more than 30 years ago.
“The very fact that this was the first communication between an American and Iranian president since 1979 underscores the deep mistrust between our countries, but it also indicates the prospect of moving beyond that difficult history," President Obama said.
US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart will now work towards a nuclear deal.
It's a deal the president of Iran says he believes will be resolved in the not so distant future.
