Fulton (WSYR-TV) -- Just one month after shutting down, the former Birds Eye plant in Fulton could be getting a new owner. There are two very interested companies and this week, one of them took a major step and has started to talk financing.
According to the Operation Oswego County Executive Director, one of companies is headquartered in the U.S., the other in Canada.
The former food processing plant is attracting a lot of interest in a short amount of time. Over a dozen companies have toured the facility since it closed.
The former Birds Eye plant has two parts to it – the refrigeration warehouse side and the manufacturing area. Both companies have their eyes on the refrigeration warehouse. If a deal is reached, a county development leader says they’ll likely work with the new owner to rent out or even sell off the manufacturing side of the building later.
"They had expressed a real interest. There’s been a series of communications and talks back and forth and meeting and re-visiting the plant," said Operation Oswego County Executive Director, Michael Treadwell.
Treadwell says a deal could be in place as early as this spring. He says the high level of interest follows a big marketing campaign. Mailers were sent out to more than 1,000 companies within 500 miles of the plant.
