Canandaigua (13WHAM-TV) - A former Canandaigua teacher who pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a 17-year-old student in her classroom was sentenced Friday.

36-year-old Marla Gurecki-Haskins will spend 45 days in jail and be on probation for three years for each of two misdemeanors.

She is also responsible for legal fees for the victim's family and will undergo sex offender treatment. She may not access social networking sites nor have contact with pornography.

An order of protection was issued to keep her away from the victim.

She will not be registered as a sex offender.

She had pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct.

She gave up her teaching license and resigned as part of her plea deal.

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) - A former special-education teacher could be sentenced to 45 days in jail for having sex with a 17-year-old student at a school in Western New York.

Marla Gurecki-Haskins pleaded guilty in September to endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct, both misdemeanors. The 37-year-old agreed to resign as a teacher at Canandaigua Academy and surrender her New York teacher's certification.

Her sentencing, scheduled for Friday, had been postponed for two days because of a paperwork delay.

Police maintained Gurecki-Haskins had sexual contact with a 17-year-old boy, and she agreed with prosecutors that there was sufficient evidence to convict her.

Teacher accused of sex with student takes plea

Canandaigua, NY (13WHAM-TV) - A teacher accused of having sex with one student and propositioning others has accepted a plea in Canandaigua City Court.

Marla Gurecki-Haskins was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct. She resigned and will turn in her teaching license. She will be sentenced on Jan. 5.

Gurecki-Haskins will spend 45 days in jail, and be on probation for three years.

The Canandaigua Academy teacher has been on administrative leave since her arrest in May.

Canandaigua teacher facing sex charges involving 3 students

Canandaigua (WSYR-TV) - A Canandaigua school teacher is facing charges, accused of performing oral sex on a 17-year-old student.

36-year-old Marla Gurecki-Haskins is also accused of "Sexting" two other students. Police say some of the incidents happened in her classroom during school hours.

According to court paperwork, she's accused of "engaging in text messaging of a sexual nature that encouraged a sexual relationship between the defendant and two 16 year old male students."

Haskins is charged with official misconduct, two counts endangering welfare of a child and disseminating indecent material to a minor. The third charge is a felony.

Haskins has been a certified special education teacher since 1996. She has been placed on leave at the district.
