Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A former Fort Drum assistant chaplain will spend more than a decade in prison for trying to lure boys into a sexual encounter using Facebook.

Upon his arrest by State Police, Jonathan McGeoch was charged with attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor in the first degree and possessing a sexual performance by a child, both felonies.

The 28-year-old man pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting that he used a fake name to interact with a boy through Facebook.

When the boy’s mother noticed the chats, she called State Police, who arrested McGeoch at a gas station in the town of LeRay where he intended to meet a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy. He planned on taking the youths camping and engaging in sex acts with them.

After he is released from prison, McGeoch will be required to register as a sex offender.
