Fort Hood soldier could face death penalty after being convicted in 2009 shooting rampage
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A military jury has convicted U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan of 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted murder in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood.
The jurors deliberated less than seven hours over two days before finding Hasan guilty in the 2009 shooting.
The army psychiatrist admitted to targeting soldiers he was set to deploy with to Afghanistan.
Hasan said previously that he wanted to protect the Taliban and its leaders from the U.S. military.
The penalty phase begins on Monday and the death penalty is a possibility.
