Founder of genome institute to deliver commencement address at SU

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A world renowned scientist and contributor to the human genome project will deliver the commencement address at the graduation ceremony for Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF on May 15 at the Carrier Dome.

J. Craig Ventner founded The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), a non-profit institute, where he and his team decoded the genome of the first free-living organism.

He is recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the "most influential people in the world" and is regarded as the principal leader in the effort to decode the human genome.
