Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Students and staff gave back at Fowler High School in Syracuse on Friday, as they helped raise money for the battle against childhood cancer during their St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon.

More than 400 people signed up for the event.

“I thought it would be a good idea to highlight our students in the cosmetology program and raise money for childhood cancer and we've taken the idea and run with it,” said Fowler High School Vice Principal Dan Evans.

Participants raised about $12,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to support childhood cancer research.
