Oswego (WSYR-TV) – The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fulton woman on Tuesday on charges that she defrauded the welfare system out of more than $15,000.

Kara Pickard, 32, of 80 Engles Rd., has been charged with grand larceny in the second degree, welfare fraud in the third degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, all felonies.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Pickard collected social service benefits while neglecting to report that she was receiving unemployment benefits. They say she bilked the system out of at least $9,000 in food stamps and $6,000 in Medicaid since 2009.

She was arraigned in Town of Scriba Court and released. She is scheduled to appear in Town of Mexico Court on July 17.
