Funeral held for Elmwood man killed in assault at a 7-Eleven
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The funeral for an Elmwood man who was killed in what Syracuse Police say was a brutal and unprovoked attack outside of a Valley Drive convenience store was held on Monday.
Family and friends gathered to say goodbye to 70-year-old James Gifford at his longtime church, Elmwood Presbyterian, on South Avenue in the city.
Gifford was an active member of the church pantry staff.
He previously worked at Van Duyn Home and Hospital.
The teenager accused in the assault that led to Gifford’s death – 18-year-old Romeo Williams – is being held at the Justice Center.
He has already been charged with assault, but the authorities are considering additional charges, or new charges.
