Funeral services set for legendary boxer Carmen Basilio

Irondequoit (WSYR-TV) -- Local boxing great Carmen Basilio will be laid to rest on Monday.

Basilio – a Canastota native – fought his way to becoming one of the best boxers in the world.

Basilio is well known for taking the Middleweight title from boxing great Sugar Ray Robinson back in 1957.

Basilio passed away at a Rochester hospital last week where he was being treated for pneumonia. He was 85.

Basilio is survived by his wife, four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Christ the King, 445 Kings Highway South, Irondequoit.
