Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A homeless man killed in a fire last week will be laid to rest Friday.

A funeral service will be held for 40-year-old Timothy Wilkin who was living in a camp beneath the McBride Street Bridge at the 690 and 81 interchange last week.

Authorities say the fire was keeping Wilkin and others warm before spreading out of control.

Wilkin died of smoke inhalation, according to police.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the corner of Erie Boulevard and McBride Street. Father John Manno, pastor of St. James Church on South Salina Street will conduct the service.
