Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The Onondaga County Legislature is in its final stages of securing a county budget for 2013.
The Legislature opened the floor Thursday night to hear the public’s concerns at its budget meeting and those who spoke were concerned with one issue: the future of Van Duyn Nursing Home.
Van Duyn has been around for 185 years and many don’t want to see it change. The Legislature is considering selling it to a private operator to save money.
"It's very important for everybody to understand that Van Duyn, as it is, is going to run a $115-million deficit over the next nine years...that will bankrupt Onondaga County,” said Onondaga County Legislature Chairman Ryan McMahon.
The Legislature says it has a private company in mind, but nothing has been finalized at this time. The budget vote happens next Tuesday.
