Geneseo volleyball team suspended for hazing
GENESEO, N.Y. (AP) - A member of a New York college volleyball team that was suspended for alleged hazing says she and other freshman players were handcuffed, blindfolded and forced to drink shots of liquor.
Rochester-area media outlets report that the player's statement to police contains those details of the alleged hazing that led the State University at Geneseo to suspend the team's season earlier this month -- pending the outcome of a police investigation.
Eleven current and former team members have been charged with hazing stemming from a Sept. 2 off-campus party after which an 18-year-old player passed out and had to be treated at a hospital. Police say she was one of eight freshmen players forced to drink alcohol.
Livingston County prosecutors say the hospitalized teen had a blood alcohol content three times the legal limit to drive.
