Gov. Cuomo returns to assess flood recovery efforts
HERKIMER (WSYR-TV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo was back in Herkimer County on Sunday to check on the flood recovery efforts. He said a lot of progress had been made since his initial tour of the damage a week ago.
“We've also highlighted some longer term issues. The creek management, the stream management is going to be a longer term issue. You can't wait before you have this kind of damage and destruction before you really address the problem and that's going to have to be done on an ongoing basis and we're going to be working on that,” said Governor Cuomo.
Cuomo said he plans to push the White House on Monday to get President Obama to declare Herkimer, Oneida and Madison counties federal disaster areas. Doing so would make FEMA aid available to eligible flood victims.
Cuomo also said that if FEMA does not provide assistance, that New York State will help out. To what extent is unknown.
