Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Firefighters have been busy Wednesday, as sunshine and dry weather have contributed to the start of several grass fires across central New York.
Traffic along Route 695 was impacted by a large grass fire near Gerelock Road and the highway in the town of Geddes.
The fire started just after 4pm. A traffic camera in the area showed traffic moving very slowly on Route 695 in Geddes for a time.
The fire was put out a short time later.
Fires across central New York have been broke out much of the day Wednesday.
Just before 4pm, a grass fire in the Town of Cicero destroyed a garage.
Also in Onondaga County, a fire along Lamson Road and Kibby Road in Lysander got dangerously close to a home in the area, but firefighters were able to douse the home in water and keep the flames at bay. No injuries were reported.
Another fire was reported around 4pm along the 300 block of County Route 54 in Pennellville in Oswego County. The fire was located close to another fire that damaged a home in Palermo.
No one was hurt, but it did take some time to get the fire under control. You'll remember a burn ban is in effect right now in Oswego County.
Despite that ban, careless outdoor burning led to another Oswego County brush fire; crews eventually put down the flames along Chapel Road in the Town of Oswego.
