DeWitt (WSYR-TV) – All of campsites are booked for a big weekend at Green Lakes State Park.
Dedicated campers are pitching their tents already, bracing for unseasonably cold weather.
“The kids didn’t care if it snowed – we’re still camping,” said Lori Bowman.
The Bowman family has been setting up camp at Green Lakes State Park on Memorial Day weekend every year for more than two decades.
“My daughter's 19 and we were coming before she was born,” Bowman said.
Park staff say they expect people regardless of inclement weather.
“We actually expect people to come on out. They've been planning to camp since last Memorial Day so we expect to be full,” said Park Manager Jim Semar.
And rain or shine, they open the beach at 11 a.m. for those willing to brave the chilly water.
Those who wish to go camping at Green Lakes may be able to take advantage of cancellations.
