Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Health professionals are saying that a vaccination shortage could delay kids from receiving their shots, some of which officials say are needed to start school.
The shortage includes DTap, which protects against both Pertussis and Tetanus.
"The difficulty is that list of vaccines are those that we critically need for children going back to school , both at the college age level and those that are 11 , and are supposed to receive the pertussis booster before they are allowed back in school," explained Dr. Robert Dracker with Summerwood Pediatrics.
Dr. Dracker says he also reached out to the Health Department to notify school nurses of the potential problem.
Officials say the shortage includes Adacel, Daptacel, Pentacel and Tubersol.
Dr. Dracker says his office has a big enough supply of the vaccines, but says parents should check with their Doctors so they can get their kids vaccinated.
