(WSYR-TV, Syracuse) High pressure is slowly moving out of our area but still has the strength to keep the heat wave going for a fourth day. Temperatures are expected to peak today in the mid 90s with the humidity becoming very oppressive. As previously noted the combination of the heat and humidity will make the “feel temperature” or heat index, reach 100 degrees or higher, prompting the Heat Advisory.
Unlike the last couple of days we think there is the chance this afternoon for a few scattered thunderstorms. With all the moisture in the air there will probably be some pretty heavy downpours in any storms that do form.
Friday we may actually get close to 90 degrees and it still will be humid but as a cold front approaches from the west we think there is a better chance of showers and thunderstorms forming. Again with very high humidity expected, we run the risk for very heavy rain with any showers and thunderstorms. This is something that bears watching. The front is expected to move through during the first part of the day Saturday, with humidity levels finally dropping off by Saturday evening.
