Liverpool (WSYR-TV) - It's been a local staple for Liverpool and all of Central New York for over 100 years and sees regular visitors like the Baldwin brothers and Jim Boeheim. Heid's
has been nationally recognized as ‘Food and Wine Magazine
’ has named them one of the top 27 best hot dogs in the nation.
The hot dog stand has already been featured on Man Versus Food on the Food Network, and the most recent recognition continues the long standing tradition of the restaurant.
“It was a great honor, considering how many hot dog stands there are,” said Heid’s General Manager Patrick Winslow.
As people travel from all over the country to enjoy the Liverpool luxury, people debate what makes the Heid’s dogs special.
“When we buy Hoffman conies at home, they're never this good. We don't know why. They do something special I think,” said Central New York local Linda Ford.
Some people speculate that it’s the grill in the restaurant, but co-owner Randall Parker says he doesn't think that's the case.
“I hate to tell them it's not - because we've replaced that grill three times since I've been here. I think it's combining the memories with the taste, Parker explained.
Whether it’s the grill or the atmosphere, one thing is certain – Central New Yorkers don’t have to travel far for one of the best hot dogs in the nation.
