SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - More than 300 people in four Upstate cities took to the streets on Saturday for the 5th annual "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" fundraiser for the Rescue Mission.

Money raised benefits the Rescue Mission’s homeless and hunger related programs that are of the utmost importance during the middle of the winter.

"Last night we had over 150 men in our emergency shelter here in Syraucuse. That’s 18 over our capacity, and so the need continues to rise both with meals and shelter nights,” said Rescue Mission CEO Alan Thornton.

Walks took place in Syracuse, Auburn, Binghamton and for the first time, Ithaca.

Organizers hope to raise $60,000.
