Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The wait is nearly over for one of the more anticipated and unique restaurant openings at Destiny USA.

The Melting Pot will open its doors to the public on Wednesday in the Canyon area of the expansion.

There are 142 Melting Pot restaurants around the country. The closest to us are in Albany or Rochester and there’s not another restaurant like it around here. That’s why people are so anxious to get in.

Melting Pot franchisee says, “It’s something we just definitely wanted to bring to Syracuse, because we thought it would fulfill a missing gap for people.”

Each of the tables feature a burner for any of the four courses you can choose from: entrée in oil, a salad, chocolate and of course a cheese appetizer. The traditional Swiss cheese, one of six cheese options, comes with veggies and granny apples and bread.

"For a lot of people, the apples are the least popular one, apples and cheese they're not so sure about…Bread and cheese no ones ever argued with that. And we'll always get you more if you don't like something or you like something a lot, we're definitely happy to add or substitute as you like,” Anderson said.

Each course is prepared at your table, with servers there to guide you through the whole ordering process.

“Turn the heat back down just to keep things warm and then we just remind everyone that the pot and pot handle are very hot,” Anderson explained.

Anderson says meals at the fondue restaurant typically last a little longer than a typical restaurant because of the way you eat, but says that’s all part of the charm you can’t find anywhere else.

Anderson says the first night through the weekend is nearly full, but there may be room if you want to eat early or late.
The Melting Pot is the first restaurant to open in the new mall expansion. Cantina Laredo will open on July 31, Gordon Biersch and PF Changs will be built out over the next few months and open in the fall. An additional restaurant will be announced in the next several weeks.
