CHITTENANGO FALLS STATE PARK (WSYR-TV) - Two people from the Long Island area are safe after emergency crews rescued them after the pair lost their way at Chittenango Falls State park in Madison County.

22-year-old Brian Abramowitz of Commack, NY and Jenna Goldberg, also 22, of Jericho, NY were hiking in the park at about 3:00 p.m. Saturday when they got lost.

After trying to find their way out of the park, Abramowitz and Goldberg called 911 about 6:00 p.m.

911 dispatchers were in contact with one of them via a cell phone and were able to tell Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies where the hikers were as the crews arrived at the park.

Deputies found the hikers near a steep hill along Chittenango Creek, just north of the park entrance.

Crews from North Chittenango, Cazenovia and Lincoln fire departments were called to the scene.

A ladder from a fire truck was extended over the creek as a rope rescue crew crossed over and guided the hikers to safety.

Abramowitz and Goldberg were taken to the hospital as a precaution and both will be okay.
