Brewerton (WSYR-TV) -- For the second time in one day, fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire in Brewerton.

The fire was called in just after 10 p.m. at a home on the corner of Route 11 and Bennett Road.

Three families – five adults and three children – were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the families with food, clothing and other necessities as needed.

The families were not allowed to return to their home due to heavy water and smoke damage, according to the Red Cross.

One young man was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Fire officials believe the original fire began in the basement and spread quickly to the first floor.

Additional details were not immediately available.

An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
