Hundreds attend International Arts and Puppet Festival in Syracuse
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- More than 2500 people lined North Salina Street Saturday afternoon for the International Arts and Puppet festival.
The free festival is hosted by the Open Hand Theater and features puppet shows, hands-on workshops and musical performances by local artists.
The annual event brings in hundreds of families from around New York State and the highlight of the festival is the puppet circus and the giant puppet parade.
Organizers hope the event raises awareness about the arts in Syracuse.
"I'm hoping guests realize we are here if they didn't know before...and that they realize the magnitude and talent that exists here at Open Hand Theater," said Maggie Maurer, festival coordinator.
This year's festival had a heavy focus on the Latin culture to showcase the area's diversity.
