Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – In the one week the health insurance exchange has been open, tens of thousands of New Yorkers have signed up.
The official health plan marketplace says more than 40,000 people in the state are now signed up for low-cost health insurance.
That’s more than any other state is reporting so far.
Under the Affordable Care Act, all Americans must have insurance by the end of the year or face a fine.
Meanwhile, the program continues to make improvements to the sign-up website.
When the site initially launched, more than 10 million people logged on that first day causing major backups.
The site says technicians will continue to monitor activity to make sure it doesn't happen again.
