Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A grand jury has indicted a suspect on a slew of charges stemming from an Internet scam with roots in Central New York.
According to the grand jury, 29-year-old Alexandru Turcan, of Florida, conducted his scheme using the popular website AutoTrader.com.
Turcan is accused of using a fake name and a counterfeit passport to set up a bank account in Syracuse.
Two victims wired thousands of dollars to the account, thinking that they were buying cars.
Neither of the victims ever got the cars they paid for. If convicted, Turcan faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of a quarter million dollars.
