Investigation finds inmates collecting workers’ comp
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A state official’s examination revealed that seven New York State prison inmates had collected tens of thousands of dollars in workers’ compensation, for which they were not eligible.
According to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the convicts collected $36,000 in benefits because of a lack of internal controls within the state’s Workers’ Compensation Board.
The inmates were collecting the benefits over the course of three years.
DiNapoli recommended that the board cross check claims from benefit recipients with inmate files.
