Ithaca Police officers assaulted

ITHACA, NY (WSYR-TV) - Police were attempting two arrest a man at the State Street Theater on Saturday night, when they say he attacked them and grabbed a taser from one of the officers.

The incident started around 8:45p.m., when a private security officer was trying to escort David Wiles out of the theater for disorderly behavior.

While he was being led out, police say Wiles encountered two Ithaca Police Officers and continued to act disorderly in a threatening manner. As they were arresting him, he began to fight with them and was able to get the taser. Investigators say Wiles would not let go of it until he was forced to.

Police tell us three officers suffered injuries that were not serious or life threatening. Two of them were taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment.  They are expected to fully recover and will return to work shortly.

Wiles is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal possesion of a weapon and assault and is being held by the police department until his arraignment.

Police say Juliet Halloran was with Wiles and physically interfered while he was being arrested. She is charged with resisting arrest and was released for court at a later date.
