Buffalo (WSYR TV) -The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron Tuesday afternoon, the team said in a release.
Buffalo defensive coordinator Fewell Perry is expected to become the Bills' interim head coach, a Bills source told NFL.com's Vic Carucci.
In just short of four seasons with the Bills, Jauron compiled a record of 24-33.
The Bills failed to make the playoffs in each season under Jauron. Buffalo has not made the playoffs since 1999, the longest active streak for a non-expansion team.
The Bills' next game is this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here's the statement from the Bills:
JAURON IS RELIEVED OF DUTIES AS BILLS HEAD COACH
Orchard Park, NY—Bills owner Ralph Wilson, Jr. announced today that Dick Jauron has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
Wilson said, “I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties as our head coach, effective immediately. I have tremendous respect for Dick and thank him for all of his efforts during these past four years. While this was a very difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville.”
A separate announcement regarding the naming of an interim head coach will be forthcoming soon.
