GENESEO, N.Y. (AP) - A jury has awarded $2.25 million in damages to three passengers injured when a Canadian charter bus rammed into a parked tractor-trailer in western New York in 2005, killing four people.
The bus was carrying a Canadian youth hockey team from Windsor, Ontario when it swerved off Interstate 390 about 30 miles south of Rochester and slammed into the truck parked on the side of the highway. The wreck killed the truck driver and three bus passengers. Another 19 people on the bus were injured.
The awards Monday came after a six-day trial in Livingston County. They're the first stemming from the accident.
Injured player Carly Labadie was awarded $1 million in compensatory damages and teammate Tory Gault drew $500,000. Assistant coach Jason Mailloux, who suffered a head injury, was awarded $750,000.
