Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A local woman is getting ready for a very special reunion. 47-year-old Donna Germano made one simple decision back in December when she chose to donate her kidney to a complete stranger.

On Wednesday, Donna will celebrate with the man whose life she saved. Jim Hayton had been waiting for a kidney for four years, and Donna was a match. They had their surgeries at the University of Rochester Medical Center and were supported by their families.

“I think my husband thought, when I first mentioned it to him about a couple years ago, he thought ‘yeah okay,’ but as time went on I gave him the brochure. I had him read it and he knew I wanted to do it. We both have a very strong faith and I told him that I thought I was being called to do it,” Germano said.

Donna and Jim – and their families – will meet Wednesday. We’ll bring you their reunion on NewsChannel 9 at 5.
