ROME, NY (WSYR-TV) - The 2nd Annual Kurt Wyman Memorial Motorcycle Ride was held on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and killed during a domestic standoff in Knoxboro in 2011.
On Saturday, hundreds of motorcycle riders took part in the 75-mile ride to help raise money for the Rome Marines Veterans Center, which helps Marines returning home from overseas get back on their feet.
"Since Kurt was a sergeant in the Marine Corps, we felt it was fitting that the first group to receive that would be a group of local marines,” said Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Russell.
Last year's event raised $13,000 which was donated to an education fund for Wyman's two young children.
