Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Lake effect snow will continue over parts of central New York tonight but, as is usually the case, winds in the lower atmosphere will play a big role in who sees accumulation.
The NewsChannel 9 Storm Team thinks that westerly winds tonight will mean that Oswego, Lewis and northern Oneida counties will see most of the snow. The snow won’t fall quite as heavily as Sunday night, with just 1-4” possible. There could be a few, slightly higher totals over the Tug Hill Plateau.
The lake effect snow will gradually weaken north of Syracuse on Tuesday with an additional light accumulation likely early in the day north of Syracuse. While the snow won’t be as heavy this time around, the lake effect snow will cause reduced visibilities, along with the potential for snow covered roads.
A separate storm system tracking across the Mid-Atlantic later tonight will bring a little light snow to areas south of Syracuse. Places like Ithaca, Cortland and Norwich could end up with a light coating of snow by mid-morning Tuesday before the snow moves out.
