Central New York is still under a seasonably cold flow of air aloft that is coming over Lake Ontario. This will continue to cause a limited amount of lake effect snow showers off the southeast end of the lake through the night. The winds aloft through the evening will be just enough out of the northwest to bring the snow showers down close to Syracuse. However, as winds shift into the southwest overnight, these snow showers will shift to the north of Syracuse. Any accumulation of snow tonight will be light.
Meanwhile, low pressure is organizing over the Deep South this evening, eventually moving to Washington D.C. by early evening tomorrow and then off the Mid-Atlantic Coast tomorrow night. It looks like a light accumulation of snow will fall from the Mid Atlantic all the way into southern New England. This system will spare central New York a direct hit but will throw a shield of clouds over us later in the day Wednesday. This means any sunshine we see Wednesday will be limited and confined mainly to the morning.
Our weather remains quiet and uneventful for Thursday but by Friday, there are indications a cold front will bring a threat for snow or even rain showers to the region. This front will signal a change to much colder weather for the weekend with high temperatures only in the 20s. The majority of our computer models continue to point to a storm trying to form off the East Coast over the weekend but too far east to cause us problems here in central New York. However, even if we remain too far west of any possible storm, it’s likely the colder air will trigger at least some lake effect snow across the area during the weekend.
