CAZENOVIA, NY (WSYR-TV) - Lanterns lit up the sky in Cazenovia on Saturday night in an effort to help children in need of a good home.
Lanterns for Love was organized by a not-for-profit called Kids on a Mission.
Kids on a Mission formed on behalf of the Widrick family in Cazenovia.
The Widrick’s have four children who range in age from three to seven years old, and who all have birthdays within a few months of each other.
This year at their joint birthday party, instead of presents, they requested donations to benefit programs that help bring kids in foster care together with families.
At the end of the party, dozens of lanterns were lit and released.
"The lanterns are from China and people used to make wishes with those and send them out into the sky, so that's everybody's wish here, to hope that we can help children become adopted,” said Greg Widrick.
Last year the event raised more than $5,000.
