Camillus (WSYR-TV) - A laser tag tournament in Camillus wrapped up Friday night. The tournament brought some of the game's best players in the world to Central New York.
If you're unfamiliar with the game, you’ll find it's a game unlike any other. Players run through the darkness, hide in corners and try to score points by shooting their opponents with lasers.
The game is intense and these players were serious – and they should be. This is an international tournament being hosted at the Fun Warehouse in Camillus.
"We do awards for the top three teams, almost like a bragging rights thing. And then we do individual awards and also like an all-star team like thing," said Michael Brandt of the Fun Warehouse.
In the laser tag world, Australia’s Brent Howe is king. When asked how he became the number one player in the world, Howe replied, "Play lots of games. I guess, yeah, a bit of practice and playing against people that are better than you so you see what they do that is better than what you do and learn from that."
Inside the arena, this particular game was red versus green and each player had its own way to win.
California player Sean Lively said, "It's very important that you shoot them more than they shoot you. If you do that, you'll win every time."
Brandon Eves from Utah said, "Pay attention. Hey, that's good advice! There's a lot going on and there’s a lot to keep track of."
Australia's Amy Sutton said she likes to hide most of her sensors so there's less of a chance of being hit.
NewsChannel 9's Kaylea Nixon also got in on the action. See where she placed in the game in the accompanying video.
