Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Onondaga County has approved the first step towards selling the Van Duyn Home and Hospital in Syracuse.

The Legislature voted 13 to four to transfer the home to a county-created development corporation.

The possible sale has been a controversial topic for months.

The county says it needs to privatize the home to save money, but opponents think a private owner might look to make changes and cut corners.
