Solvay, New York (WSYR-TV) - A large amount of black smoke poured out of the Syracuse Energy Corp. building in Solvay Friday morning, prompting a large emergency response.
The company tells us that the plant was struck by lightning around 7:30 AM, and that caused the dampers to a draft fan in the plant to close.
That then caused smoke inside the building to fill the boiler house, then exit through the roof of the plant.
The company says no one was injured in the incident.
Initially folks living and working near the building thought there was a large fire.
NewsChannel 9's Tower Cam captured some video of the smoke coming out of the building. To see it, click here.
