Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The city of Syracuse and several communities throughout Central New York will be commemorating 9/11 on Wednesday.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, DC, on Sept. 11, 2001, when airplanes were crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A fourth plane was headed for Washington, DC, but crashed in Pennsylvania after its passengers overcame the terrorists.
Among the memorial events planned for Wednesday in Central New York are:
- City of Syracuse – 8:30 a.m. at the Forman Park Police Memorial, 17 Minutes of Silence 9/11 Commemorative Ceremony
- City of Utica – 9:30 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial located on Memorial Parkway
- Town of DeWitt – 5:30 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial on Butternut Drive, DeWitt
- Village of Phoenix – 6:30 p.m. at Henley Park in the village, bring a candle and a chair
