Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A loaded handgun was found in carry-on luggage at Hancock Airport on Wednesday.

The Transportation Security Administration says the gun was spotted by an officer as it passed through an x-ray machine. One bullet was chambered in the gun.

The .25 caliber pistol was being carried by a man from Clinton, NY who was going to fly to Philadelphia, the TSA said. Syracuse Police confiscated the gun and ammunition.

The man did have a valid pistol permit, police said. He was legally allowed to carry the gun, but not as a carry-on for the flight.

Weapons are not permitted in carry-on baggage.

The man missed his flight while police investigated but was later allowed to book another ticket. Syracuse Police did not file charges.

More information on regulations can be found on the TSA website.
