Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A local group is getting ready to make its 25th trip down to the Gulf Coast.
Operation Southern Comfort leaves Saturday, and like in trips past, the group will help rebuild and revitalize the area where Hurricane Katrina hit back in 2005. They'll be planting trees to shield homes from future storms and building a new home for a single mother with five kids.
"Its an eye opening experience for them to see what is going on down there, and they also learn a lot about themselves, what they can do and how much they care,” said Norm Andrzejewski, who leads the trip each year.
More than 80 people will make the trip -- most are college students.
