SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - 83 Army National Guard soldiers from Central New York returned home from Afghanistan on Sunday night.
Friends and family gave them a hero’s welcome when the arrived at Hancock Airbase.
“It was very nerve wracking just not knowing what's going to happen, not really talking to him every day. It was very hard but now that's over and he's here and I'm excited to see him,” said Elizabeth Houston, who is engaged to one on the returning soldiers.
A second group of soldiers from the same battalion are scheduled to return to Syracuse by the end of the week. A third group, deployed to Kuwait, should be home by the end of fall.
