Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The 45th Annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon to raise money for those living with muscle diseases will be Sunday, September 5 on NewsChannel 9. Last year, the telethon raised $315,000.
The money raised by the telethon supports an MDA Summer Camp in Upstate New York. Every summer 70 children suffering from muscle diseases, including Lou Gehrig's Disease, get the chance to enjoy the outdoors.
Kamden Hardy, a 3rd grader from Pulaski, keeps his counselors on their toes with his sense of humor. "I like to go fishing and catch turtles, but they keep stealing my bread. Rotten fish," he said.
Chris John has worked with countless children during his six years as a counselor at the camp, but says none have been quite like Kamden. "He's older than his years," John said.
In lives filled with challenges, the week at camp gives each camper a chance to challenge themselves. It is a place where the things they can do are far more important than what they can't do.
The annual MDA Telethon starts at 10 PM on Sunday, September 5, on NewsChannel 9.
